Codère CPRF Doctoral Thesis Scholarship

Purpose
Canadian Purchasing Research Foundation Scholarship
The purpose of the Codère Canadian Purchasing Research Foundation (CPRF) Doctoral Thesis Scholarship is to foster a Canadian community of scholars in the field of purchasing and supply chain management by supporting outstanding doctoral candidates in their thesis development and research.
Qualification Candidates must be enrolled in doctoral studies at a Canadian university. Candidates must have completed all course requirements and a thesis proposal in the field of purchasing and supply chain management.
Number of Scholarships Up to two scholarships in any single year depending on the quality of the applications and at the sole discretion of the Canadian Purchasing Research Foundation.
Scholarship Value Up to a maximum value of $15,000 per scholarship may be awarded at the discretion of the Canadian Purchasing Research Foundation.
Application Deadline April 1 of each year.

Application Process
Applications must include:
  1. A one-page covering letter describing candidate's interest in contributing to knowledge and practice in purchasing and supply chain management and including the following information:
    1. The date candidate has completed doctoral courses
    2. The date candidate has taken or will take doctoral exams
    3. The date candidate has defended or will defend the thesis proposal
    4. The date candidate expects to receive the doctoral degree
  2. A 3-5 page summary of the research proposal detailing research relevance and significance to the field of purchasing and supply chain management, research methodology, and schedule
  3. Official transcripts from the candidate's current university.
  4. A letter from the candidate's major advisor, stating that the dissertation topic is acceptable.
  5. Three letters of recommendation (one letter may serve as the letter requested in #4 above) from professors or administrators familiar with the applicant's research capabilities. The letters should be sealed independently within the application package.
  6. A curriculum vitae highlighting the applicant's educational and work achievements including any accepted or forthcoming publications
Evaluation Criteria Applications will be assessed against three broad criteria:
    excellence and relevance of the applicant's research proposal.
    excellence of the applicant's academic record.
    excellence in the applicant's research and work experience.
Although there are many worthy and exciting areas of research, the Foundation is especially interested in supporting research that addresses the following topics:
  • Supply chain management (SCM) as a strategic tool
  • Alliances and supply chain integration / collaboration
  • Strategic sourcing and supplier development
  • Impacts of globalization on Canadian firms
  • Role of information systems in SCM
  • Supply risk and supply chain governance
  • Measuring supplier effectiveness
  • Roles in supply chains/networks
  • Training/development approaches
  • Supply chain management methodologies
Role of SCM in product/service innovation
Decision Award recipients and amounts will be determined by the Scholarship Panel of the Canadian Purchasing Research Foundation based on the evaluation criteria and considering the competition for and availability of funds.
Disbursement Terms Scholarships will be paid directly to the doctoral candidate. For scholarships exceeding $5,000, payment will be made in three equal installments:
  • one-third upon submission of the research proposal approved by the candidate's dissertation committee
  • one-third upon written notice by the candidate's thesis supervisor that the written dissertation and research is at least 50% complete,
  • one-third upon receipt of the completed dissertation accepted and approved by the candidate's dissertation committee.

This scholarship is made available in memory of Claude Codère, a.p.a, FACGA. As an astute purchasing professional and gentleman, Claude is remembered for his passion for his profession and his advocacy of purchasing research. His strength and perseverance during the infancy of the Foundation and his persuasive ways in garnering support were an inspiration to many and a model for those who follow. He is missed by all, but the boundless energy, enthusiasm and eloquence that sustained his work will long be remembered.
