The gift was presented to Dean Mike Percy today by Mary Aylesworth, President of the Canadian Purchasing Research Foundation. It was made possible by the generosity of members of the Edmonton and Calgary chapters of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC), a national association representing more than 7,000 purchasing and supply management professionals in Canada. According to a recent study on Edmonton's competitiveness, Alberta suffers from an acute shortage of business graduates who are able to combine skills in logistics, information technology, and supply management. A similar shortage has also been identified by industry across Canada. "Efficient supply chains are the life blood of any economy - more so in the Edmonton region given its role in resource-sector development and re-supply," said Dean Mike Percy. PMAC's gift will reinforce the School's efforts to research and teach the development of more efficient and effective supply chains." About the Canadian Purchasing Research Foundation (CPRF) In 1996, the Purchasing Management Association of Canada incorporated the Canadian Purchasing Research Foundation, a separate legal entity registered under the Canada Charities Act, for the purpose of funding research, scholarships and academic chairs. The Foundation is an extension of PMAC's earlier fundraising efforts to advance the profession of purchasing and supply management, culminating in the endowment of a chair in purchasing studies at the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario. Although still a young Foundation, CPRF has established scholarships at École des Hautes Études Commerciales, York University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Calgary and the University of Western Ontario. These scholarships are primarily awarded to graduate business students pursuing careers or advanced studies in supply management. In addition, the Foundation has funded research on supply management issues of interest to business leaders and supply management professionals. CPRF aims to foster a Canadian community of supply management scholars by funding doctoral scholarships and setting long term goals for additional chairs at universities across Canada.
